Military during Thanksgiving
I WISH TO EXPRESS MY THANKS TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU !!! AND MAY WE ALL THANK THOSE VETERANS WHO FIGHT FOR US !!!
Thanksgiving during WWII…
They’re celebrating Thanksgiving on this very day,
My thoughts are at home, though I’m far away;
I can see everyone, eating dinner deluxe,
Whether it be chicken, turkey or even duck;
The fellows over here won’t whimper or moan,
They’ll look to the next one and hope to be home.
Truly and honestly, from way down deep,
They want you to be happy and enjoy your feast.
These holidays are remembered by one and all,
Those happy days we can always recall.
The ones in the future, will be happier, I know
When we all come back from defeating the foe.
_______Poem by an Anonymous WWII Veteran
For those of you living where there is no official Thanksgiving Day on this date – look around – family, friends, Freedom and life itself – all enough to give thanks for each day !

This post is so poignant of our veterans, their duty, and sacrifice – regardless of the days of the year. Thank you, GP.

That’s the most wonderful poem. Reminds me to dig out my book of WWI poetry.

In many ways it describes the horrors so more vividly than any tv documentaries

You’re right. One look at these pictures and you see the emotions written on the faces of the soldiers.

Belated wishes for your Thanksgiving gp. I enjoy reading the poetic writings from the old Second World War guys, it always brings the lonesomeness of War home, cheers.

I think they felt it more, to be honest. There was no such thing as a ‘tour of duty’ back then. You were drafted and you served until it was over.

Reblogged this on John's Notes and commented:
I’m a couple of days late reblogging this, but I still wanted to share it and add my own thanks to those who are serving away from their families during this US Holiday.

I’m a little late for Thanksgiving Day greetings, but as you’ve often pointed out, every day should be a day marked by gratitude and giving thanks. I’ve certainly grown to be grateful for your blog, and your visits to mine. I’ve learned so much — and been entertained in the process!

How nice of you to say so, Linda. And you’re right – everyday we be thankful. I read a line once that stuck – “What would you have today if you only got what you thanked God for yesterday?”
