  13. What a great list of times to honor our military. Actually, they should be honored every day of the year for providing us freedom.

    • Yes they should, but many are so single-minded. Thankfully I don’t see that in my readers.
Keep up you great work as well, Bev!

  17. Thank you for the profound respect that you give to those who have given so much for our countries. I treasure a letter sent to my father thanking him for his contribution, signed by President Truman!

  18. It’s a great idea to have a month of commemorative events for the brave service men and women. They are so often overlooked in the day-to-day of busy lives. VE-Day used to be remembered a lot here, as did D-Day, but now so many people regard them as ‘ancient history’, it’s a struggle to find much mainstream interest.

    Best wishes, Pete.

  23. GP, more than ever – in these times – we should be grateful for those who serve and have served, as well as those who lost their lives serving. As well, gratitude for the families of all military personnel past and present.

    • I’ve always liked that one! I also liked that list about ‘You could have heard a pin drop…’ when DeGaulle told Dean Rusk he wanted all Americans out of France, his reply was ‘Including those that are buried here?’

  30. I have to say that Military Spouse Appreciation Day is such a wonderful concept. Even if it only promotes a better understanding of the challenges faced by military spouses – the regular moves, irregular hours, playing single parent to children whilst the spouse is deployed – that is such a positive.

  31. Bravo Zulu, GP, as the Navy would say. Also very special thanks for including Hal Simmons in the Farewell Salutes. Since Hal was a Navy vet and a beloved shipmate on the USS Midway (CV-41) Carrier Museum, this is a fitting post for him to be included in.
