MEMORIAL DAY 2024
Over the years, I have done many a Memorial day post, feel free to check the archives for past ones!
May NO American or citizen of a free country ever forget those that fought and died for you!
None of us would be who we are, or have what we have, if not for the strengths and sacrifices of others. Most of us enjoy lives of relative freedom. Our freedom has come at enormous cost. The price paid by those who gave their all. In service to their country, states and communities.

Thank you. After the funerals I’ve seen, I can understand why Dad couldn’t take hearing it any more.

Such a moving post, GP. The slide show really got to me, the sacrifice so plain to see. For a short time I provided grief counseling to little kids who’d lost their dads in Iraq. The image of the child by the grave is exactly how it looked. Memorial Day should be every day.

Yes, it should be. How wonderful that you were able to help those children. I’ve had a few people ask me how to explain such a hardship to a child and, not really knowing how, I referred them to Leo Buscaglia’s book, “The Fall of Freddie the Leaf”.

There’s a fantastic book called “Guiding your Child through Grief” by the Emswilers. I studied with them and their book was insightful and practical and geared toward little kids up through teens. Picture books are wonderful for the tots, but grief is a long process for children as their lives change with age, so it’s good to have a resource that points to why a kid, who lost his mom or dad or brother at a young age, might have trouble getting ready for his graduation as a teen. 🙂 Thanks for being a resource for families, GP. That’s wonderfully kind of you.

I appreciate your recommendation. I’ll keep that title on file for future reference. (and reading myself if I ever get caught up with what I have, lol)

Enormous cost for those who only ‘partially’ come home as well. Saw a friend today in a photo with his 4yr old daughter and he is more of a shell. Heartbreaking and yet I’m honored and humbled to know he gave the ultimate sacrifice for all of us.
