4th of July 2021
SEEMS WE DON’T SAY IT ENOUGH – SO, I’M TRYING TO FIX THAT RIGHT HERE – GOD BLESS THE USA!!!
We can rant and we can complain, but we should thank the troops for giving us the right to do so! Today we celebrate our country’s birthday. Traditional BBQ’s, fireworks, family and friends, we have a day off and have a ball! – and to whom do we owe it all? You guessed it_____
THE SOLDIER’S POEM
And we come home again,
Forget the band
And cheers from the stand;
Just have the things
Well in hand –
The things we fought for.
UNDERSTAND?
_____Pfc C.G. Tiggas
He’s only a sailor on the boundless deep,
Under foreign skies and tropical heat.
Only a sailor on the rolling deep,
In summer rain and winter sleet.
Fireworks and cookouts
And time spent with friends.
Swimming and playing
The good times never end.
But lest we forget
The reason for today
Let’s all say it now
Happy Independence Day!
Freedom’s Price!
Today we celebrate freedom
thanks to those who came before.
Those brave men who fought and died
in each and every war.
Freedom always comes at a price,
And while we celebrate
We should tip our hats to the heroes
who made our country great.
Red White and Blue
Hamburgers and hot dogs
cooked on the grill,
Fireworks in the night
giving us all a thrill.
The country all decked
in red white and blue.
Friends all saying
‘Happy 4th of July to you.’
Where does your state rate in its patriotism?

FUN FACT:
Denmark is the only country outside of the United States that holds an official 4th July celebration. Celebrated annually since 1911, thousands of people from across the country gather in Rebild National Park in Jutland for picnics, speeches and to sing some American classics. Known as Rebildfesten, its organizers claim that it is is the biggest celebration of US independence outside of the USA.

When I was a kid, July 4th was also Philippine-US Friendship Day. I don’t remember when and why we stopped celebrating it as such.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I didn’t know they stopped it either. I thought that was your own Independence Day.

It used to be, until the 1960s when the president moved it to June 12, the day of our independence from Spain, our longest colonizer. It didn’t mark our sovereignty as, obviously, we were colonized by the US for the next 50 years. It’s symbolic though. It was the first time we waved our flag and played our national anthem.

How many months have 30 days (in a full year)?
Answer: 11 months because even if some have 31 days, they still hold 30 days.

Yes, I did, but I was disappointed in my neighborhood.

I find it obnoxious that liberal states (Oregon and Washington) rank way above NV, here the liberals narrowly edged out conservative votes (vote fraud helped) in the last election.
The criteria used in this evaluation contributed to those results.

I just don’t understand the ‘Woke’ mentality.

Was the neighborhood not really into the 4th? 😢

Probably just the BBQ up at the clubhouse. So I had my own celebration.

I know intellectually the cost of freedom is very costly for you and what you have to endure with your loss. I can never know experientially what that is like…

We had a neighborhood get-together for the 4th. However, I started the whole affair off with words similar to yours. Although NC ranks 25th in patriotism, I can assure you that Western North Carolina by itself would rank towards the top. Unfortunately Charlotte and Raleigh have huge populations that skew the numbers.

Glad to hear your area is patriotic. In Florida, I think everyone have a just too ‘out for themselves’ type frame of mind. A few people were jolly at the store and wishing others a happy 4th, but as a whole, it’s sort of depressing.

Sorry to hear that. I agree, the yuppie mentality has pervaded all corners of our great nation. Very few young people even know there was a Korean War and Vietnam War. It’s a sad state of affairs.

They can’t learn from history if they aren’t taught it and these days, schools think it’s a subject that can be just skimmed over.

Hope you had a Happy Fourth! I was looking for your post yesterday but I did not see any. Sorry I am late for the party. Been playing patriotic music all days yesterday. My front yard is decked with Red, White and Blue. I even got a garden flag with Navy Veterans on it and my ‘Heroes Rose’ blooms yesterday in time for the Independence Day. We had ‘illegal’ fireworks last night sponsored by the homeowners. Being on the HOA board, I allowed them to have a blast.

Terrific post, GP — a wonderful way to commemorate the holiday. I hope you had a wonderful Fourth. Sorry I’m late to the party.
By the way, I emailed you a WWII question for the new story at my place. If you don’t know the answer without researching, no worries. I’m a research geek anyway. 🙂 Hugs on the wing.

The OSS was our spy agency. Argentina was associated with Germany and Italy, while their communists sided with the Russians. They finally declared war on the Axis powers in 1945 (guess they could see the writing on the wall as to who was going to win.) You might wish to dig deeper than that for your own knowledge.
Come by any time with a question, I will always try to find an answer for you or lead you in the(maybe) right direction! lol
Good talking with you, O Talented One!!

Ah. No wonder I couldn’t remember where they stood in the war. That definitely makes a feast for thought on what I was considering for a minor character. I might make up an agency since this one would need to be extra weird. LOL. Thanks so much for the info. Army sends his regards. 😀 Hugs.
