Thanksgiving from: Pacific Paratrooper

Rakkasans of today.
187th RCT
I WISH TO EXPRESS MY THANKS FOR EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU !!! AND MAY WE ALL BE THANKFUL FOR THOSE VETERANS WHO FIGHT FOR US !!!
Thanksgiving during WWII…
They’re celebrating Thanksgiving on this very day,
My thoughts are at home, though I’m far away;
I can see everyone, eating dinner deluxe,
Whether it be chicken, turkey or even duck;
The fellows over here won’t whimper or moan,
They’ll look to the next one and hope to be home.
Truly and honestly, from way down deep,
They want you to be happy and enjoy your feast.
These holidays are remembered by one and all,
Those happy days we can always recall.
The ones in the future, will be happier, I know
When we all come back from defeating the foe.
_______Poem by an Anonymous WWII Veteran
For those of you living where there is no official Thanksgiving Day on this date – look around – family, friends, Freedom and life itself – all enough to give thanks for each day !
FROM: PACIFIC PARATROOPER – May you all have a happy and healthy Holiday Season !!

The slide show of how troops have celebrated Thanksgiving across the years was wonderful. And, the cartoon with the picture of the father taped to his chair really made me think about how hard it is for families to be separated during the holidays.

Yes, we have a lot of troops deployed around the world. I felt it necessary to remind people of their families. Thank you for your visit, Sheryl.

Happy Thanksgiving, GP. Ours was quiet, just the two of us, which was very different. One of my fondest memories of Thanksgiving was when our son was home from the Naval Academy and wanted to say the Grace, specifically thanking and asking for a blessing to all the brave soldiers and sailors who were away from their families. That was a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Thank you for this terrific post. I love the poem, and the photos – especially the soldiers chasing the turkeys!

Yes, this year’s was not at all like my past ones – especially when I was young. Mom always made enough food for an army and she invited everyone she could think of! When your son was home that year, he made it known just how much the military is to be thanked for. Smart man.

Yes, he is a smart man. And he’s still serving our country. I think that makes him smarter. 🙂 Our Thanksgivings growing up were just family, but there were plenty of us.

Hi – hope your thanksgiving was pleasant and great post – a couple sad comics there but then the lighter ones helped leave with a boost

The sad ones have to be there as well since there are so many Gold Star families out there and so many with loved ones deployed. But I’m glad the funny ones kept you smiling!!

So thankful for our troops around the world serving to keep us free. That first poem reminded me of the world today with the pandemic we are fighting. We indeed hope for a better time in the future as well. We still have much to be thankful for.

Lovely and touching post with poems and photos from the tough life of the soldier. Henry and I had our private Thanksgiving today simultaneously with you; even though it’s not a Danish Holliday, we treasure it here and are thankful for our friendships with our American friends. Happy Thanksgiving to you, GP Cox
