Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to everyone out there !!   May you all find the Peace and Happiness you deserve.

Cherish His Christmas

Dedicated to our military…

Christmas brings such a time of love
Each tender heart holds so much of

Unselfishness thrives, trust is strong
The purpose to give, send love along

A time of pleasantries, patience too
Good wishes to all, all feelings true

Thankfulness follows each fine deed
Gifts from our God, never from greed

Great the rewards that joy does bring
Like the beauty in hearing angels sing

We pray for our loved, each so dear
Especially those who can’t be near

Many leave home to bravely serve
All freedoms we have, they preserve

Do pray for our troops, as we should
And their families too, if you would

Give thanks to our Lord, His only Son
And cherish His Christmas, everyone

      You are quite right. I rarely mention the ETO because I have not researched it and therefore not the least bit qualified to talk about it! hahaha

        There are several parallels between his account of the Battle of the Bulge and the battle going on in Washington now.

        Hanson also points out that Gen. Patton warned Ike and Bradley that the Nazis were likely to try something like their push through the Ardennes. Bradley in particular pooh-poohed it, no surprise given his animosity toward and jealousy of Patton.

        On at least 3 occasions, had Ike listened to Patton the war in Europe would have ended sooner. (1) In the Allied breakout from Normandy, Patton was in Brittany near Le Mans. He warned Ike, Bradley & Montgomery that they could trap and annihilate the Nazi Army in what is called the “Falaise Gap”. Indeed, Bradley had the Nazis closed off from the west and Montgomery had them from the north at Falaise. Patton pleaded with Ike to let him swing up from Brittany and seal the Nazis off from the south and east, trapping them at Falasie. Patton’s advise was not taken and the Nazis escaped up the Seine River. The men and material that got out later formed the nucleus of the Nazi assault through the Ardennes we know as … wait for it … The Battle of the Bulge.
        (2) Patton’s specialty was lightening fast surgical strikes that went deep into enemy territory, the circling back, enclosing the remnants and mopping up. He made the case to Ike that this should be the strategy going into Germany proper. It amounted to using the Nazi’s Blitzkrieg methods on them. Ike wanted to do a slow, wide roll up of the Nazis back across the Rhine. This was a tactic favored by the plodding Montgomery as well. Bradley was opposed to Patton’s idea because it was … from Patton. The upshot of this was the war dragged on for months while Ike, Bradley and Montgomery did their slow-roll to the Rhine. Several fine military strategists have pointed out the correctness of Patton’s strategy and agree that Ike drug the war out for several months longer than necessary.
        (3) In November/December 1944 with Patton’s Third Army camped around Reims, Patton warned Ike and Bradley (as mentioned above) that the Nazis were likely to make a surprise push through the Ardennes in a bid to recapture the port at Antwerp. The Nazi build up was going on literally right under Bradley’s nose. Bradley turned a blind eye to it, needlessly costing the Allies – the Americans in particular – thousands of unnecessary casualties. Patton’s last minute turn north into Belgium from Reims had the result of stopping most of the Nazi offensive. (Patton arrived in Bastogne the day after Christmas, 1944.) But it still took another month of bitter fighting in one of the worst winters of the 20th century to roll the Nazis back into Germany.

    The poem and the video were both moving. I had read the video poem and it was good but the video made it powerful. The Santa paratrooper reminded me of when my children were small and Santa would parachute into the mall parking lot. Merry Christmas!
