I learned about this tradition when I was first married. It is wonderful and so important. Never forget!

A small, silent reminder that sets many to tears. As long as we speak their names, they live on.

Simple, silent and to the point. The most important things are not seen or heard – but felt with the heart.

Thank you. I hope you realize that I like to think of commemorative days such as this for your men as well. They were there fighting for the same freedoms!

What an absolutely wonderful post GP and a great way to remind us how much others have sacrificed for us. We are truly blessed by their selflessness. A good reminder that we all need to give back. Thank you !

It will be reblogged tomorrow on equipsblog. We used to see such setups at official functions. Nice to see it done in a civilian setting too.

Such a touching post. One of the nicest things I encountered in the past week was a local radio host, who’s on-air three hours in the morning and two in the evening, dedicating an hour in each show to show calls from people who wanted to honor the fallen in their families. They could call, give the name, rank, and service, and anything special that they thought should be noted. It was amazing how many people you can hear from in an hour — but it also was a good reminder of all those who won’t be so publically honored during this weekend.

What an outstanding idea!! How wonderful those people can honor their loved ones like that. Thank you for telling me, Linda!!

Thank you for sharing. One of my favorite features of our Civil Air Patrol banquets is when the host unit provides a live narration of the meaning of the table for one with cadets doing the presentation. It always brings a tear to my eyes.
