U.S. Marine Corps Birthday

The Marine Corps Birthday is on November 10 and celebrates the establishment of the US Marine Corp in 1775.

The day is mainly celebrated by personnel, veterans, or other people related to the Marine Corps. Usually, it is marked with a Marine Corps Birthday Ball with a formal dinner, birthday cake, and entertainment. The first ball was held in 1925.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWDdC-D68Uo

The United States Marine Corps is the US Armed Forces’ combined-arms task force on land, at sea, and in the air. It has more than 180,000 active duty personnel as well as almost 40,000 personnel in the Marine Corps Reserves.

    My Dad joined the Marines when he was almost 17. When they realized how young he was, they kicked him out. Really upset him, too. But, a few years later he joined the Army Air Corp. He went to Okinawa during the Korean War. Then, when the two services split he stayed in the Air Force.
    He went to re-enlist the day my baby sister was born. Being the proud Dad he was, he had to brag about her. Unfortunately, at that time if you had more than one kid, you couldn’t stay in! His recruiting sergeant said if he had just waited a few minutes, and or not had witnesses, he could have re-upped because once he had signed up, it was too late to deny his re-enlistment. Poor Dad. He loved being in the service.
    He will never know it, but he had an incredible military funeral, complete with taps, and all the other things they do when you are buried in a military cemetery.
    Thanks for allowing me to reminisce a little. I miss him.

    GP, The country needs your reminder of November 10 as the birthday of the US Marine Corps, 1775-2018, 243 years, & will be right there in 2025 with the 250th birthday as we prepare for the 250th of the USA in 2026 !!!!!!!!!! You are a good steward of our history, GP!!! Thanks! Be well! Phil

    It’s a wonderful idea to celebrate the Marine Corps birthday. If there are 220,000 personnel involved today, I wonder how many people are eligible to celebrate the event. It must be more than million! And presumably there must be an oldest Marine?

    This very night, one of the best live music venues in Houston — the Redneck Country Club — is holding a combination Marine Birthday Party and Veterans Day celebration. You can see the poster for the event here, on the right side of the page.

    The name of the place is pretty much tongue-in-cheek, but it’s got some Texas swagger to it, and it takes the needs of veterans seriously. There always are veterans events there, and they are deeply involved with Camp Hope, which provides services to vets struggling with PTSD. In short, they keep awareness of veterans’ issues in the public eye year round — it’s a great deal.

    The first time I was at an event where the Marine Corps song was played, a few gentlemen stood up, standing proud. They weren’t in uniform, and that didn’t matter, because once a Marine, always a Marine.

    Gotta love the Corps. I really wanted to be a Marine when I was a young man but I knew that I would never get through Basic Training. There were two reasons for that. 1) I could never do pull ups, not more than one or two at the most. 2) I swim like a rock, I can’t even dog paddle without sinking. I went into the Army because I could run for hours at a time, I enjoyed it, I could do hundreds of pushups at a setting and I could do about 60 situps in their two minute drills. Then I went into the Army and got popped by lightning, go figure.—I am going to reblog this article for you Sir.

        We did train with them, and having actually see the training and what they went through….. can´t compare it with me for sure. I´m also glad at that last sentece. And ….yep, we did party marty!!
        Plus where I was stationed, in shouth east of Spain, the local woman loved to see the ¨Americans¨, quite a novilty for them when the Americans came to town. Just good memories.

            Only in the US can you hear a thank you, not that I want it or need it, It just doesn´t happen in Spain, and for us is normal the not normal would be for a person to say thank you, so I don´t know what to say, I lied, I do know what to say wich is do if you can whatever you can for those American soldiers, at the end to not kid ourselfs they really do the fighting, the rest of the other nations we are just looking most of the time. A great respect I have for those guys, specially since I still keep in touch with a friend who was a Marine, the other one went sideways after his time there.

            There are a bunch of charities in the US for veterans.

              Thank you very much for your comment. I am saddened that you and your fellow soldiers do get the recognition you deserve. We have many charities, but even they can not handle the workload. Our troops get deployed so many times, the problems mount up and the VA can not handle it. I believe it will be necessary for the draft to come back.

    The Marine Corps Museum in Quantico, Virginia is well worth the stop. It is near (but not on) the Quantico Marine Corps Base and one of the finest military museums I have ever visited. When you go through the Korean exhibit, they have you pass through a helicopter body and the temps are in the 50s so you get a faint idea of how cold Frozen Chosin was for the Marines. When you enter the museum, you begin by planting your feet in painted footprints, just as if you were to begin Marine Corps basic training. (Promise that the Museum is much easier to get through.).
