Special Issue – MAY – Military Appreciation Month

May, marked officially as Military Appreciation Month, is a special month for both those in and out of the military.

Not only do we pause on Memorial Day to remember the sacrifice and service of those who gave all, but the month also holds several other military anniversaries and events, including Military Spouse Appreciation Day and Armed Forces day.

  3. Your dedication on behalf of our military is remarkable in its own way, GP. There were several items here that caught my attention, because I wasn’t aware of them. We’ve come to a point where people without family members in the military often don’t know what’s going on — or what is needed in terms of support. You’re doing a great service with posts like these.

  4. Like your idea of a Military appreciation Month, unfortunately we don’t have something similar here in Australia. Enjoyed reading through those great links gp, the story of the Silver Star award 51 years after Vietnam was great, Recognition after so long, definitely an award well earned.

  5. Fabulous tribute and reminder post, GP! It appears that finally after such a long dry spell that our current administration is turning things around and getting behind these men and women! It’s a good feeling! 😀

  9. We should thank them every day of every month of every year…but I’m so glad there is the month of May for special appreciation! 🙂
Whenever I see veterans, or current military personnel, in public, I always go up to them and thank them.
    Thank you, GP!

  10. Great posts. I enjoyed reading the articles. I have fond memories of Memorial Day Parade in Oyster Bay. All our neighbors walked the half block to the main road and lined up to cheer those marching in the parade.
We all take a moment to honor these men and women of the armed forces for their sacrifice to protect our freedom. We also appreciate the military spouse for holding the fort at home. They deserve a whole month of appreciation.

    • Maybe it was best you didn’t know at the time and you were allowed to have a childhood, Sheila. We give our thanks now as adults who understand what they sacrificed for us.
