Canada Day – 150 Years !

HAPPY 150TH BIRTHDAY NEIGHBORS

On July 1, 1867, Canada became a self-governing dominion of Great Britain and a federation of four provinces: Nova Scotia; New Brunswick; Ontario; and Quebec. The anniversary of this date was called Dominion Day until 1982. Since 1983, July 1 has been officially known as Canada Day.

Amazing video!!

  1. Totally awesome video. I have a friend who was born in Highland Park, MI. His family moved to Canada because of his father’s job at Ford. When WWII started, he joined the RAF as a fighter pilot. He flew out of several bases in England. The ironic part is that he came home and became an Episcopal priest.

  2. It’s been a long time since visiting our northern neighbors. It’s only a 3 1/2 hour drive from here to the capital of Manitoba at Winnipeg. Gotta get this on my list!

  3. Hey GP! I added comments to the page https://professionalshealthconnection.com/fitness/exercises-for-seniors/ so you can let me know what you think.

Be sure to read the blog first though – there’s some good advice in there too.

Please let me know how you make out ok? I am working on larger fonts for the exercises – should have that pretty soon.

    Good luck GP !

  5. I am always a little behind in reading your work. I was especially interested in this post because I grew up near Niagara Falls New York and spent a lot of my free days in Canada. I remember when July 1st was called Dominion Day. Canadians are great friends to the USA, the best any country could ever have. You have written another fine post, this time in honor of our fine friends to the north, thank you.

    • Certainly my pleasure, Kevin. No problem getting behind, I’m doing it constantly – I think I’m perpetually off-schedule!! Niagara is where I’ve been to Canada, like so many others. I found it beautiful and friendly.

  14. Wishing all Canadians an amazing celebration. We are just in the early stages of planning our first visit to Canada next year. Thinking East & West Coast + the Maritimes. All hints gratefully accepted. Guess since we are coming from Oz it will be a 6-8 week trip – but not in winter. LOL. I’d have to invest in an entirely different wardrobe for that 🙂

    • That one is unique, isn’t it?! It’s been awhile since I was last up there, can you think of other Canadian meals you like?

      • If you like to eat fish, they have really good salmon, of course, but a lot of times, varieties you don’t see on menus around here, like pickerel, walleye, black crappie, etc. And this may sound weird, but I love pea soup, and the Québécois have “habitant” yellow pea soup that’s the best. They have really good beef, too, from Alberta. Quebec City has any kind of good food, they must have more restaurants and bakeries per capita than anywhere I’ve been. Toronto has Polish and Hungarian. Ok, now I’m hungry again.

        • You’ve got me hungry too! But I’ll have to go to the store and buy and some yellow peas !! I love pea soup and often make it, but I’m going to try and find a yellow pea recipe and see if different!! Thanks.

    • Dina,
I got on line this morning with my headphones, prepared to spend quite a bit of time listening to O Canada videos. It did not take very long for this one to come up and POW, it seemed so powerful – I knew right then and there it HAD to be the one for their 150th!! I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
      Have a wonderful weekend!
