11 September 2012, the day the United States Consulate was attacked in Benghazi, Libya. The event should still under investigation.
The following was written by an anonymous Marine officer ___
We’re the Battling Boys of Benghazi,
No fame, no glory, no paparazzi.
Just a fiery death in a blazing hell
Defending the country we loved so well.
It wasn’t our job, but we answered the call,
Fought to the consulate and scaled the wall.
We pulled 20 countrymen from the jaws of fate,
Led them to safety and stood at the gate.
Just the two of us, and foes by the score,
But we stood fast to bar the door.
Three calls for reinforcement, but all were denied,
So we fought and we fought until we died.
We gave our all for our Uncle Sam,
But Barack and Hillary didn’t give a damn.
Just two dead Seals who carried the load,
Ambassador Stevens
No thanks to us – we’re just ‘bumps in the road.’

Love the poem. Right away, I thought of the “Battling Bastards of Bataan”. I remember when Hillary said, “What’s the difference?” That was the most stupid thing to say!

Do you have any thoughts on the role of the CIA in Benghazi. Stevens and two of the other Americans killed were CIA operatives, and the annex to the consulate was a CIA headquarters. It has been alleged in severalnewspaper reports that the CIA were smuggling arms from Libya to the Syrian rebels. Apparently, both the Republicans and Democrats have been oversimplifying what happened in Bnghazi and why it happened.

I’m afraid I would not be qualified to answer that for you. But one thing I’ve come to know over the years, if the CIA were up to something over there – we wouldn’t hear about it.

Our politicians of today are from the pampered generation, they don’t know severe hardships or military service – they have nothing to relate to when an emergency happens I’m afraid.

GP, I came back to give you an interesting tidbit of news. When I went to reblog this post this afternoon I ran into a hilarious and frustrating bit of gamesmanship. It literally took me a good fifteen to twenty minutes (maybe a bit more) before I could get the system to accept it. I will never know what was challenging my repost, and I certainly won’t entertain voo-doo mechanical errors.

I did find some information on the poem and who wrote it:
” A man named John Edwin Roberts, who identifies himself as a former Navy SEAL, wrote the “Battling Boys of Benghazi” poem. The poem first appeared in San Diego Beach Life Magazine under the title “Battling Bastards of Benghazi” shortly after the attack on the American consulate in Benghazi in 2012.
It was inspired by a poem written during World War II. Frank Hewlett wrote “The Battling Bastards of Bataan” about American men who died while being held prisoner by the Japanese at Camp O’Donnell. The poem goes:
“We’re the battling bastards of Bataan;
No mama, no papa, no Uncle Sam.
No aunts, no uncles, no cousins, no nieces,
No pills, no planes, no artillery pieces.
And nobody gives a damn.
Nobody gives a damn.”

Their smiles. They fought, gave their youth, bodies, souls, were killed a thousand times and yet, I can see them here: old, alive. With a smile.
How can one not be broken, forever haunted?
A lonely fight at war, a lonelier fight after war.
I am in awe of their quiet strength. And of these words, this song, these drawings. Thank you for showing us.

WHY have we not seen these images in press reports. That one of Ambassador Stevens is chilling. WHY are the State employees who were rescued not allowed to tell their story. WHY were requests for security turned down. These answers will not come out in the politucal circus of Congressional hearings nor will Hillary tell the truth. What the hell happened to investigative reporting? It’s demise seems to have coincided with the demise of newspapers and now it’s all opinion pieces or buased reporting. I rue the day we lost any heir apparents to Woodward and Bernstein.

We haven’t forgotten it….if politicians want to play games then they should put their own bodies on the line.
An investigation won’t please the politicians…but it has to be made and pressure has to be maintained to achieve it.
Still waiting for Chilcot on Irak…how many years down the line, now….but it seems it points the finger at those who thought themselves well out of the limelight as well as the obvious suspects.

When sacrifice is asked for, and freely given, none of the remaining military personnel should ever feel like the writer of this poem. Otherwise the next time a politician asks for volunteers, there won’t be any, and quite right too. Most wars are fought for politicians, and certainly not for the brave men and women who die in them.

Awful. Just awful! Our government is working against us & too many can not see. If not reversed, I fear we are doomed. The question I have is, is there enough intelligence left in the country to reverse it? I don’t know.

Frankly I don’t know why the terrorists bother with us, we’ll destroy ourselves soon enough. Hard to say about the intelligence – I suppose only time will tell. Where are the protesters when you need them? Why didn’t they raise hell with Hillary and Barack?

It is beyond sad. What happened in Benghazi has been conveniently swept under the rug, even though there have been numerous and repetitive cries for a more thorough investigation. I agree with you–the incident should be investigated until we find out exactly what happened.

I will preface this by saying generally I avoid partisan squabbles such as Benghazi has become. But I am more interested in history so I will jump in here.
The 1983 Beirut bombing is a good comparison to 2012 Benghazi if you want to measure what Reagan would have done with a Benghazi.
Was he “right on it”? The attack in Beirut happened late October. Reagan did not order air strikes and naval bombardment until mid-December. Even then, the U.S. still didn’t know who the perpetrators were and the U.S. attacks were ostensibly in response to Syrian missile firing in Lebanon, not the barracks bobbing itself.
Within 6 months, Reagan withdrew US forces from the region.
There’s no way to know who would have done what, as there are too many hypotheticals. However, the best evidence at our fingertips suggests that Reagan would be more cautious and less forceful than some people think he would be.

It’s hard with these posts. They have the unfortunate side-effect of encouraging unhelpful comments from the fringes, but brave soldiers died and we should remember that.

The Tragedy at Benghazi in 2012 remains one of the most tragic and most glaring failures of the United State Government in recent history. Chris Stevens and his Top-Notch Security detail were left out in the cold without any support by an inept State Department run by one of the most treasonous politicians to ever hold that office: Hillary Clinton. Whats Worse is that Clinton still sidesteps any blame or wrongdoing by hiding emails and information that would most likely clear up WHAT REALLY happened that night and at the same time has the audacity to run for President!
The best way we can Remember and Honor those brave folks that lost their lives that night in Benghazi is to NEVER STOP SEEKING JUSTICE for the people responsible for what happened…..Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama are responsible for those American Lives and should be held fully accountable.
BTW, one of the best book on Benghazi from the perspective of the WARFIGHTERS On the ground and not some lying Politician is 13 Hours in Benghazi.
