  2. I wonder how many people realise that having a respected armed service tends to turn enemy militants into pacifists?

Where does one draw the line between LMF, PTSD, and a naturally oversensitive and imaginative nature?

Sadly, the way history repeats itself shows that few people learn from it.

    • A psychiatrist needs to draw the lines and even they make mistakes – it’s open to human interpretation.
And no – human don’t seem to learn from history – or we would never have set foot in the Middle East again!!!

  3. Very poignant picture regarding PTSD, long way from the days of shell shock diagnosis, history has recorded victims of shell shock actually being shot for cowardice.
Times in war change but the effects remain the same.

  4. 20thcenturybattles would like to extend out heartfelt thanks to the servicemen and women who gave their lives in the name of freedom. These people made the ultimate sacrifice with dignity and stoicism, qualities that are fast being lost in todays world. On this ay, I would like to give a special mention to our young servicemen and women who make that same sacrifice in many theatres of war, which is a great example to us all. To quote GP Cox ‘We Salute you’. An apt and appropriate sentiment indeed. Thank you, once again for an excellent post.

    • No one could pen a better comment about this post than I just read from you, Rich. I am certain ANY serviceman or woman that reads this will feel the same!!

  5. Hi G… Thanks for the ‘history’ lesson. It is a good reminder. Another thing that I think I would enjoy is being a history teacher. (I was in Africa.) I am going to be off taking a break for the next two months. Keep up the good work and I will see you in September. –Curt

  7. Good to know about both these events. I also like the animation of how to fold the US flag.

  8. I always wonder if maybe as the younger generation gets older, they too will take a greater interest in history. Most of us do enjoy it more as we get older and wiser.

    • I hope that’s true, Bev I have always enjoyed history, especially going through Smitty’s scrapbook, but I can understand your comment. [after-all, I did end up choosing my education to be science orientated and here I am now blogging history].

  9. Great post. My heart goes out to all the men and women (and their families ) who have served their countries. They do not get the support they need nor the thanks we owe them. Whether you agree with the ideology behind a conflict or not, these individuals are working hard and suffering for us. Bless them all.

  11. I think I just saw that Vulcan bomber going towards Duxford this evening. It’s good to see PTSD given some coverage.

  13. Thanks for the UK mention GP. There is some concern here though, given the recent attacks in France and Tunisia. There are lots of high alerts, but everyone is being urged to participate. We have the last flight of the last Vulcan bomber going over tomorrow, so look forward to that.
    Best wishes, Pete.
(The photo shown as British humour WW2, the troops with the pram. I think you will find that they are Germans. At least the uniforms are.)
