About GP

Everett Smith served with the Headquarters Company, 187th Regiment, 11th A/B Division during WWII. This site is in tribute to my father, "Smitty." GP is a member of the 11th Airborne Association. Member # 4511 and extremely proud of that fact!

    • You sure have been busy reading, Ian – do the posts tend to become monotonous? [I do have a tendency to drone on sometimes, try to rein myself in and then make the stories too short – can’t seem to find that medium area I want].

  5. Military Appreciation Month, eh? I’m already working on my Memorial Day post, and I’ve got another one kicking around in my brain. Will look at the calendar – if I can’t manage the second one this month, I’ll stretch my appreciation into June (since I never ever stop appreciating!)

  10. I say every month should be military appreciation month. 😀 Never mind, that wouldn’t be fair to other professions. 🙂 But seriously, these heroes should always be appreciated. 😉

    • They should be, they are responsible for us waking up in our current free homeland along with the freedoms many other countries do not enjoy. Thank you for dropping by.

  11. I think of family and friends who have served and those still serve, today.

    • That is the whole idea behind this month and why we have so many more days of appreciation than some other countries. Thanks for stopping in, Swabby.

    • Ha! It seems he had a misconception of the benefits, eh? I don’t know where Chris has found all these on his site, but he’s done a great job!

  14. Raising the flag at Iwo jima (hope that’s right) has to be the most iconic photo for me

    • The first raising is to me, but not the planned one. And the flag was raised with so much fighting left to do. I don’t mean to be a wet blanket here, the image and statue mean a lot to many people, I just think it should have been done when the island was secure. Thanks for commenting, feral – and for being so loyal to Pacific Paratrooper!

  15. We sure enjoyed it, GP Cox! You selected some great photos for your tribute! 🙂 It’s hard to pick a favourite, but like Pete, I must say the UN photo put a big smile on our faces. Lovely work.
    Wishing you a sunny weekend,
Dina and the rest of the gang Xx
