Everett Smith served with the Headquarters Company, 187th Regiment, 11th A/B Division during WWII. This site is in tribute to my father, "Smitty." GP is a member of the 11th Airborne Association. Member # 4511 and extremely proud of that fact!

    Civilians – mostly all innocent – become the victims when leaders fail in their job. This is a sound example. Thanks for the link, gpcox.

    Interesting story, ironic that the great old hotels become a place of refuge in war, the same happened in Vietnam.

    This took me instantly to a book I found on my father’s shelves, Through Japanese Barbed Wire by Gwen Priestwood. The book was published in 1944 because Gwen escaped from a civilian prison camp in Hong Kong and walked through China to freedom. It’s quite a story.

      My pleasure, Amelia. I have been holding onto the post’s address since I first read it. So many of us associate 7 December with Pearl Harbor and forget how much of the rest of the Pacific exploded that day (8 Dec. over there). I have a wonderful group of friends here, a regular community who like history, discussion and, of course, they have a sense of humor – try out their sites!!
