Murphy’s Laws of Combat
Military Appreciation Month has been emotional straining on many, so I feel it is time for some humor! Therefore let’s look to our Maiden on the Midway, Anna and get a laugh or two…..
- Never share a foxhole with anyone braver than you are.
- No battle plan ever survives contact with the enemy.
- Friendly fire ain’t.
- The most dangerous thing in the combat zone is an officer with a map.
- The problem with taking the easy way out is that the enemy has already mined it .
- The buddy system is essential to your survival; it gives the enemy somebody else to shoot at.
- The further you are in advance of your own positions, the more likely your artillery will shoot short.
- Incoming fire has the right of way.
- If your advance is going well, you are walking into an ambush.
- The quartermaster has only two sizes, too large and too small.

My Uncle was an officer with a map. He led his group 9 miles in the wrong direction (behind enemy lines) by accident. Ooops! 😉

He didn’t happen to be in the 11th Airborne, did he? Smitty had an officer get his unit lost on New Guinea. That would be quite the coincidence – wouldn’t it?! Thanks for stopping in, Mary.

You are quite right, Ian. Even my father mentions that in one of his letters when he got to New Guinea.

Yeah – I don’t think the pilot was laughing at the time, but once back aboard ship, his buddies must have had a field day with him! Thanks for stopping in Elizabeth.

Love these military tips. I have a few–‘Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you’ and ‘If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics s***’.
Warrior humor is great.

gp, I really appreciate this re “humor in Uniform” as Readers Digest still calls it!!! I am trying to find my way to introduce the fact that despite the great sacrifice of some 58,000 dead in the Vietnam War, naturally, there were the moments of laughter. I want to do a few from my Vietnam service…..maybe a serious intro & then a humorous episode. I have a few in mind! Maybe call it, “My Vietnam: 1970.” Thanks for all re my latest post, “”Repair & Replace”!!!!!! Comments, Likes, etc. I responded there as you know! Phil

Just like when my dad, Smitty, got to New Guinea – the Lt. got them lost – turned out he was looking at the WRONG map! 😉
