Thomas Kinkaid's tribute

Thomas Kinkaid’s tribute

Today we fly the American flag, not only in memory of the 2,977 who died that day, but for all who suffered from the consequences of the terrorist actions of a few and those that gave their all to assist in the rescues.

WWII news update –

AP news service announced that in Italy’s Lake Garda a WWII DUKW, (amphibious trucks known as “ducks”) was found upright 900 feet down. According to Cpl. Thomas Hough, the sole survivor, on 30 April 1945, 3 DUKWs of the 605th Field Artillery left the east bank of the lake and his duck began to take on water. Loaded down with 25 soldiers and a 75mm cannon, they began to discard their ammo and equipment. Twenty-four of the men drowned. An Italian group of volunteer divers are making plans to locate and return the bodies home if they can be found.

Patriot Day is tomorrow. I wanted to share this past post from GPCox over at Pacific Paratrooper, because there’s no sense in me trying to create a new post when it’s already been done with excellence.

    • I thank you so very much for your kind words and the reblog. I hope you enjoy this year’s post about the subject; it is mostly a tribute to the rescue dogs, those that had no choice but to go in, regardless of the danger.

      • Oh, I will be thrilled to read about the dogs! My Farmer and I just love good dogs. We’re of a mind to adopt an ex-military dog once our Buddy dog passes.

You are so welcome for the reblog. The pleasure is mine for sure!

  7. We may not like what led to the blog, but the memories evoked can never be forgotten. The saddest bit is knowing the futility of all such actions, yet armaments and their manufacture are endorsed by all the governments, of all the nations in the world, and all those governments will continue sending the young people of all their nations to fight and kill each other in the name of peace and democracy. Now where’s the logic in that?

  12. Wow – very thought provoking. In Australia we are somewhat sheltered and so it’s really interesting for me to read your (and other people’s posts) about 9/11. Although I absolutely remember standing in front of the tv in horror I can’t begin to imagine what you as a nation went through.

    • Sometimes we seem to forget that bad things can happen to the U.S. too and many become stunned when it does happen. Just like you, most of us remember exactly where we were when we heard the news, everything seemed to go into slow motion, info wasn’t coming in fast enough, getting on the phones to call someone (anyone), etc. A dramatic episode in our history to say the least.

    • I felt they more than deserved a spot or two. They do their job just like the humans, but can not express what they’re feeling during or afterwards. If they become traumatized, who would know? They just go out and do what they are trained to do. Thanks for commenting on them.

  15. Very nice tribute, gpcox. Very nice… We are in the worst war ever, perhaps. The one against terrorists. This may last for a dozen more years. Somebody save us – especially those innocent ones who will perish.
